Generally, even though Wodehouse is writing in the early part of the 20th century so his plots are dated and were of course meant to be pure fluff, this just drags. He has a few clever turns of phrase but this is not worth the money. Choose something else from this author since he is lighthearted and has great, clever, fun descriptive turn of phrase. The Gold Bat P G Wodehouse 9781544891712 Books Reviews
A classic Wodehouse shool story,, in the vein that launched hi career..
Love PG Wodehouse. Fun stories about boys at boarding school. Very entertaining. I love P.G. Wodehouse's sarcasm. I hope you enjoy the book too.
You really need to have some understanding of rugby for this to make sense
P.G. Wodehouse is a family favorite especially for "read-alouds". We think reading it aloud adds to the overall enjoyment for everyone.
I should have known, with a title like 'The Gold Bat', that this would have some kind of sport in it. First, I have to begin this review by stating I did not finish this book. Therefore, it's entirely likely that I missed some hidden gems later in the tale. That I was unable to make it a quarter of the way through is also very telling. I love Wodehouse - his Jeeves series and his stand-alones. Settling in with a cup of tea and preparing to be amused by his entertaining characters getting themselves - and out of - fixes is one of my favorite things.
I gave the book two stars because Wodehouse' marvelous voice comes across clearly. However, if you're like me, and you find your attention wandering slightly when, in other titles, Wodehouse's characters begin to talk extensively of golf or baseball - this book is not for you. There is so. much. talk. of....rugby? Football? Something with teams? Then, being set in a boys school, I found it very hard to get a sense of the place or the characters.
I feel like a bad Wodehouse fan, but there it is. But it's free on , and it's hard to turn down a free Wodehouse.
I find that if it isn't golf or Jeeves, I can't read Wodehouse. Give it a miss.
Early Wodehouse but show how effective he was in creating characters who have charmand grace. Does not have the humour of his later Jeeves.Mr Mulliner or the Oldest Member.
