The Millennial Guide to Making Happiness Volume I Chris Butsch 9781610058421 Books

I stumbled upon this book through a friend of the author and am so glad I read it! It’s a great find — intriguing personal story, well-written, and deeply grounded in science.

As a boomer, I’m hardly the book’s target reader; however, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the book’s quality and contribution to the happiness field. In Chapter 2, Chris writes about the groundbreaking psychology study of lottery winners versus accident victims, which I supported as a work-study student in college many years ago. Thanks to that job, a generous grant, and 3% loans, I graduated with minimal debt. I was very lucky, especially compared to many millennials’ experiences. And I’ve been very happy.

In more recent years, I’ve studied applied neuroscience, including mindfulness, and totally support Chris’s point of view and recommendations. Happiness is within ourselves.

The Millennial Guide to Making Happiness Volume I Chris Butsch 9781610058421 Books Reviews

Like all the best works of its kind, The Millenial's Guide to Making Happiness is a joy to read while being thoroughly researched, chock full of fascinating and downright fun stories, and boasts mountains of data to support its suggestions for how we all can be so much happier in our lives. A worthy read for Millenials and non-Millenials alike. Chris has a winner, here. Looking forward to Vol. II.
The Millenial's Guide to Making Happiness is a funny and enlightening book not to help people *find* happiness, but to help them *make* it. Chris writes with the self-awareness of someone twice his age and always has a joke at hand to help offset the seriousness of the subject at hand. He doesn't lecture you, but instead helps you understand the science behind why certain things make you feel the way they do. And as they say, knowledge is power. The knowledge contained within this book can help you understand the sources of unhappiness in your own life and that understanding gives you the ability to fix them!
I'm a pretty darn happy person, so I didn't really feel the need to read it at first, but after reading it, I see why I'm so happy. And, more importantly, it gave me a lot of ideas for improving my health & furthering my happiness. I know that meditation seems too new-age a concept to many Christians, but Psalm specifically instructs us to meditate on His Word. As Christians, we're instructed by God to pray for our enemies & bless them, which is similar to a form of meditation known as Metta (Bustch covers this in the book). Now I also know the science behind it! I also love the scientific permission to take an afternoon nap because I've always felt guilty about napping!

I typically stick to fiction, but Bustschstcsh (kidding) has a great sense of humor that makes this book a page turner - I finished it in a day. The fact that I was on an overnight field trip on a bus with 46 sixth graders - holding singalongs to Miley Cyrus, no less - is a testament to how well-written the book is.
Wow, I'm only partway through this book but I am already tearing up with laughter and actually experiencing happiness as I read this believe it or not! I highly encourage anyone who is a millennial, loves a millennial, or can relate to a Millennial's mindset to order this book immediately.

Although this is technically a self-help book it feels more like a story from a good friend who is well educated and well-traveled. I really enjoy experiencing the ups and down of the author's life as he takes his journey to explore happiness and purpose. It is very well written and very good read.

I can definitely tell you that this is just not some book that someone woke up one morning and decided they wanted to write about a particular topic because "they just know all about it." The author has put in considerable time and research to his discoveries making it all the more credible. I cannot tell you how much I can relate as I have been through ups and downs in my career path.

I will also say, this is not only for Millennials-- I feel like every generation can relate in one way or another. In fact, I'm going to mail this book to my mom when I am finished reading it because I feel like it might give her some insight into the way her Millennial daughter operates and my thought process. But I noticed some things that she can relate to as well herself. Everyone thinks Millennials are whiny and and don't have any patience... Well that may be so but there is a method to this madness and Chris helps us uncover it so that we can live in both a happy and productive world.

I think as Millennials we feel unproductive if we don't achieve a certain status quo because this is the brain food we are fed. This life is actually a lot less confusing than we are taught...read this book and you will find out what I mean
A Fantastic book!
There's a lot of fluff books out right now. This is not one of them. Chris has devoted his life up to this point to get all of this great info in one place. And as he is a millennial like me, I don't feel like I'm being talked down to. Highly recommended!
Chris does an excellent job of breaking free from the typical self-help book. This book provides actual advice for creating happiness in your life rather than resorting to faux-spirituality and common sense guide lines that are so common to books in this genre. This is a must read as a Millennial just joining the post-college world (or anyone really, it's never too late!)
